BREAKING: TPUSA Voted Off Campus!!

 BREAKING NEWS

By: M.R. Framboise

NEW ORLEANS, La., following an incredible turnout on the October 15th SGA senate meetings, the legislative branch of the Student Government Association of Loyola University New Orleans voted to deny the chartering of Turning Point USA, the white nationalist, Christian-supremacist organization founded by the late Charles J. Kirk.

Members of Liberate and Unite New Orleans Students of Democratic Society and a member of the general student body gave speeches against the chartering of TPUSA and in support of students of all diverse backgrounds. In addition to the general public, the esteemed senators asked quite poignant questions fundamentally surrounding the idea that we cannot trust that Loyola TPUSA will not encourage the dangerous actions that National TPUSA and other organizations have taken.

Speakers for LUNO-SDS gave excellent speeches in support of those students marginalized and against the white supremacy, and cisheterosexism of Turning Point USA. Members of the senate were also provided with the open letter that was written by M.R. Framboise for The Daily Salad and cosigned by 21 LOYNO students, 15 members of the general public (including comrades from the Queer and Trans Community Action Project and SDS at Louisiana State University). The letter was even cosigned by 5 publications/social organizations including LUNO-SDS, The Louisiana Supported Living Network (an organization of several in-home support companies across Louisiana working to serve older adults and people with disabilities), The Queer and Trans Community Action Project, and Louisiana State University Students for Democratic Society.

Worth noting is that the names acquired were only in the span of a few hours and The Daily Salad is still taking names and organizations for the letter. To add your name to the letter send an e-mail to

With the subject line "Signing Anti-TPUSA letter" and your first and last name, college/CAS Department (if a Loyola student), or university, graduating class, and any organizational titles of relevance that you've held.

Although the fight against reactionism and bigotry at Loyola is far from over, it is certainly a win to have (a) packed the senate hearing with well over 50 members of the public even excluding LUNO-SDS and to (b) have run TPUSA off campus (for now). Here at The Daily Salad we extend our greatest thanks to those members of LUNO-SDS who spoke, and the members of the public who either spoke or came to the meeting in support of our mission to get hate speech off campus. To you I say this, you are democracy made manifest

The Daily Salad will have updates as this story continues to develop.
